  • Record/Vinyl

    Limited to 33 bundles.

The long-awaited and sought-after vinyl repressing of The Parlour Trick's debut record, in blood red vinyl, (or one of the gold records, should they be successfully pre-sold, if you prefer). Autographed.

A meticulously assorted bundle of charms, artifacts, merch, and media culled from Mer's vast personal Stash of Strangeness. Goodies galore!

Each THEREMINA AND BACK AGAIN bindlestiff includes:

At *least* one signed issue of the long out-of-print Coilhouse Magazine. (Mer was a co-founder and the acting Editor-in-Chief of the online alternative culture hub and print object from 2007 through 2012.)

18"x 26” "A Blessed Unrest" poster featuring photography by Ellen Jane Rogers

Parlour Trick "Lady of the House of Love" brooch designed by Lee Dotson & Nadya Lev

"Coilhouse Seance" A limited edition portrait by Kurt Komoda, screen-printed by Melissa Dowell.

A collection of mp3s of all sorts of bands Mer has played with over the years, plus assorted demos and rarities and never-seen-the-light-of-day type stuff.

A hand-crafted talisman of the creature of the buyer's choosing.

A customized mix tape / playlist assembled for the 33 backers.

A ton of other weird-ass one-of-a-kindness intended to resonate the feels and the funnybone. Several friends and colleagues of Mer's are pitching some rare, limited editions of their Parlour Trick / Theremina-adjacent work into her communal bag of treats, including authors Laurie Penny and Richard Kadrey, artist Jessica Joslin, costumer and performer Meeks Baker, filmmaker / creature designer / puppeteer Kevin McTurk, fellow musician and noisewitch Kim Boekbinder, artist Misaki Sawada, and more TBA.

There aren't many prototype images available for what the extra fancy bindlestiff goodie bags will look like, but folks who have either ordered or been gifted with this sort of assemblage from Mer before know that she's compulsive about presentation, packaging, and quality. The experience sure to be a delightfully spooky semiotic adventure for all parties involved.

(A couple of reviews from some satisfied customers: "PSA: Theremina does not half-ass her vinyl releases." ~Joshua R. "I meant to send this ages ago... I received on of the Parlour Trick vinyl packages via your Kickstarter. I opened it after a particularly long and challenging week. It made me cry. Seriously --I'm a professor in orthopaedics-- I live in a 99% male world and have pretty thick skin-- but the package you sent me made me cry. I was literally in tears. The love was just so palpable in that package. I can't thank you enough..." ~L.N.)

Each care package will contain a unique assortment of objects and ephemera curated over Mer's lifetime of roaming the earth as a temporarily human Waldkammer of Weird. A one-of-a-kind, lovingly crafted gift to you or the loved one of your choice from a nomadic storyteller, musician, magazine editor, composer, comics collector, curator, costumer, circus performer, ghostwriter, media consultant, beast-wrangler, bootlegger, film geek, alt-cult community-builder, independent journalist, theatre nerd, copywriter, monstrous feminist events organizer, prankster, and culture vulture.

It'll take 3:33 hours to assemble the tangible elements of each bundle. Mer will even time it with an hourglass and document the process, because she's a pretentious git that way. In addition to assembling the items listed below, Mer will have a conversation with each person who purchases this by phone, exceeding no more than 33 minutes and 3 seconds. Together, they'll suss out what other sorts of arts 'n' crafts 'n' talismans will bring the chosen recipient(s) the most joy, peace, intrigue, excitement, pleasure, comfort, etc.

Sometime in the Spring of 2017, each patron will receive a gorgeous care package in the mail, custom-tailored to their personalized preferences and aesthetics. Additionally, the purchaser will also have their name listed in the "patron acknowledgment" section of the album art on Mer's next album.*

The Parlour Trick's original crowdfunded run of "A Blessed Unrest" vinyl sold out within weeks of going on sale in October of 2013. Since then, creator Meredith Yayanos has been getting an average of multiple inquiries a week. Copies of the basic vinyl (not the deluxe corseted edition) have been resold online for upward of $200.

Yayanos, who has long been living la vida vagabond, swore to herself she'd never undertake another painstakingly obsessive self-release of The Parlour Trick vinyl and related merch again! But... HA HA HA THIRD FLIPPIN' BAY AREA OWNER MOVE-IN EVICTION IN THREE YEARS SO NEVER SAY NEVER HAAAAA

*Which just so happens to Mer's midlife crisis, manifesting in the form of a monstrous feminine pop record. More on that to be announced shortly.

“There are things in that wallpaper that nobody knows about but me, or
ever will.”
Track Name: Scryer
"There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all of time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and it will be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is nor how valuable nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep yourself open and aware to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open. ... No artist is pleased. [There is] no satisfaction whatever at any time. There is only a queer divine dissatisfaction, a blessed unrest that keeps us marching and makes us more alive than the others."
